Updates for Ashley Gardner

A Body In Berkeley Square (Captain Lacey Book 5) should be available this week (in the next few days--watch this space for an announcement).

A Covent Garden Mystery, the last of the backlist books will come out early August (or last week in July, depending on how quickly the edit-proof process goes).

I am working on A Death in Norfolk, with plans to publish that in early September.

After that, I have three more Lacey novels in the works, but the one per month schedule will slow--because I need time to write the books and make them good. I'm thinking one every 2-3 months, but I'll let you know as things go on if that's realistic.

Tentative titles:

A Disappearance in Drury Lane
The Alexandrian Affair
Death of an Only Son (or Murder in Grosvenor Square--have not decided yet).

You will find out much more about the pasts of Marianne, Grenville, Mr. Denis, and of course the acerbic Lady Breckenridge.

Thanks again for the support for this venture. The good Captain will continue!

The Necklace Affair is Out!

At last--a brand new, never-before-published Captain Lacey story! The Necklace Affair is now available.

Find it on:
Kindle

Nook

and in various formats on Smashwords: http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/64839

(It will eventually be loaded to other vendors via Smashwords--that takes time, but Smashwords makes it downloadable in many different formats. It is an ebook only at this point, but it will be bundled with another book when the books get re-printed).

The Necklace Affair began as a story I started one day on jury duty. It sat unrevised on my computer for years. (I had the vague notion of sending it to Ellery Queen magazine or some such, but life got in the way.) I found it while going through the files to prepare to re-release the Lacey books and write new ones.

I rewrote, revised, and expanded the story to a ten-chapter novella (remnants of the original jottings I did in the jury waiting room are still there).

The story falls between the events in The Sudbury School Murders and A Body in Berkeley Square (which will come out in July).

I might do a few more novellas, but my priority is the full-length novels. I am hard at work on A Death in Norfolk, which will come out after Covent Garden Mystery is re-released.

I hope you enjoy this interum story. It represents, to me, a great triumph in getting the Lacey books moving forward again!

Hanover Square at Smashwords etc

The Hanover Square Affair is now at Smashwords in every format (for Sony, Palm, ePub etc). It takes a while for Smashwords to upload to all the vendors, but you can get the book for your devices directly from Smashwords. The price is 99 cents.

http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/60568

Hanover Square and the others through Sudbury School Murders are already available on Amazon Kindle and B&N Nook (See http://www.gardnermysteries.com/  for links to them.)

Sudbury School on Nook

I am working to get all books in the series out on other platforms (Apple iBooks, Sony, Kobo, etc), but the process is taking some time. I will post when it happens.

Sudbury School on Its Way

I have today uploaded The Sudbury School murders to Kindle and Nook. It takes a couple of days to process, but keep checking. I will also post here when they are available.

I included a teaser for The Necklace Affair, the novella coming next month.

(Check out The Necklace Affair's lovely cover on my website: www.gardnermysteries.com, and click Books).

Again, thanks for all the support!

Coming Up

I am continuing to work on the Captain Lacey series so that the releases come out smoothly. The Sudbury School Murders will be out in mid-May on Nook and Kindle. (I'm also in process of getting all the books out to more vendors--Sony, iBooks, Kobo, and wherever else ebooks are sold.)

After Sudbury School , something new! The Necklace Affair, a never-before-published novella. The Necklace Affair began as an unfinished story I wrote a few years ago, while waiting all day at the city courthouse to be picked for jury duty (never was).

I'm expanding and finishing the story and have just contacted my cover artist to do the cover for it (plus covers for Body in Berkley Square and Covent Garden).

I plan to have The Necklace Affair ready to publish in mid-June. In Lacey's life sequence, it squeezes between Sudbury School and Body in Berkley Square.

BTW, this story will not replace Lacey Book 7 (tentatively titled A Death in Norfolk)--this is in addition to, not instead of.

So, look for Sudbury School in mid-May, and we march onward!

The Plan

If all goes well, on Feb. 15 The Hanover Square Affair will be re-released, with a new cover, on Kindle at Amazon (I also have plans for putting these on the Nook). I will release one book a month, and follow up with Book 7 after that. I have to write books in this series around my other deadlines, but I will strive to make that happen.

I will update here with links when the book is available, plus I have been updating my website (http://www.gardnermysteries.com)

I am getting pretty new covers for each book, and I'm going to try to keep the prices as low as possible.

Stay tuned!

Firewalker (Book 2 of Stormwalker) Out, and Captain Lacey

I'm excited to annouce the release of Firewalker, Book 2 of the Stormwalker series done under my Allyson James persona. This series is set in the American Southwest and follows Janet Begay, a half-Navajo Stormwalker who solves crimes with her sidekick biker boyfriend, and a cast of colorful characters (including a bisexual magic mirror). I have a page dedicated to this series: http://www.allysonjames.com/stormwalker.html

For reasons I don't understand, the publisher has labeled these books romance, but they are not romance. I wrote them to be pretty straightforward urban fantasy/mystery. So if you enjoy Tony Hillerman, Charlaine Harris, or Nevada Barr, please give Stormwalker a look.

Captain Lacey mysteries: I am in the process of republishing the Captain Lacey novels on Kindle. My timetable is to have book one up by Feb, and the others to follow each month. (I have a gorgeous new cover for Hanover Square, which I will post as release time nears).

I am doing this with an eye to continuing the series. This series pretty much got dumped by the publisher, and I've been struggling to revive it ever since. It's been a hard row to hoe, and I appreciate the ongoing supportive messages about the books. I will get Book 7 and more out there one way or the other! Stay tuned.

Stormwalker is out!

My mystery/fantasy series starring a Navajo heroine who can channel the power of storms (Stormwalker, by Allyson James), is out this week from Berkley. It's available in Wal-Mart, chain bookstores, indie bookstores, and in ebook at Sony and Barnes and Noble (among others).

More about the series, plus an excerpt is here:

Enjoy! Book 2, Firewalker, will be out in November.

While waiting...mysteries

While waiting for my new Mystery/Paranormal/UF series to debut on May 4 (STORMWALKER, as Allyson James), I'm enjoying watching mysteries.

I just now caught up with the Jesse Stone TV movies, which I think are very well done. I haven't read all the books, but I thought they captured the flavor of them well. I was saddened to hear of Robert Parker's death, but I'm pleased that two more of the movie versions will be coming out soon: No Remorse and Innocents Lost (I think in 2010).

I've also "discovered" the British series, Life on Mars (I know there was a US version, but I missed it somehow, and I usually prefer the Brit versions anyway). Premise: A DCI in 2006 gets hit by a car and time-travels back to 1973. He's now a DI, working for a completely non-PC, sexist, thinks with his fists, total jerk who drinks on the job that you can't help liking. Go figure.

Since I don't watch much TV (too busy writing), I like it when I stumble upon things, usually several years too late, but then I can Netflix the whole series without having to wait for releases.

Speaking of new releases, though, Foyle's War returns on May 2!! to PBS. (Although I keep asking whether it should be called Foyle's Post-War... )

Looking forward to more Wallander later in the year.

Forgive the TV indulgence--I'm a mystery junkie!
