Available from Amazon here.
Also in print is The Necklace Affair, which has been bundled with the two stories in The Gentleman's Walking Stick.
Available from Amazon here.
What's next? I'm working on A Disappearance in Drury Lane, which should come your way early next year. The target date is Feb or March. I plan to write 2-3 of these books a year.

It is out! A Death in Norfolk is now available from:
As usual, it will take a couple of days to wend its way to the UK, German, and French Amazon sites, and a week or so to start appearing on Appil iBooks, Sony, and the like. (However, the Smashwords edition can be read on almost all devices.)
The print version of this book will be out in about two weeks. Stay tuned!
Thank you all so very much for both your patience and support which inspired me and helped me get this book written and published. I hope you enjoy it.
Thursday, October 13, 2011
A Death in Norfolk, Book 7 of the Captain Lacey Regency Mysteries series, is finished and now being edited. Due to circumstances beyond my control, the publication date has moved to October 20 (Thursday; in order to have time to get it proofread). A Death in Norfolk is a full-length novel, about the same word count as the other full-length books in the series (Hanover Square; Regimental Murder, etc.).
Death in Norfolk will release first in e- (for Kindle, Nook, Sony, Kobo, or your e-reader of choice), followed in a couple of weeks by the print version. I will have a more specific date for the print version when I learn it, but it should be very soon after the e-version is released.
I am also going over the proofs for the print version of The Necklace Affair anthology, which will gather The Necklace Affair novella plus the two stories in The Gentleman's Walking Stick into one print volume (the cover is beautiful!). Finishing Death in Norfolk is my number one priority, but The Necklace Affair anthology should be available in the next week or so.
If you wish to receive an email when A Death in Norfolk is ready, you may either sign up for my newsletter at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/gardnermysteries/ or send me a private email:
gardnermysteries @ cox.net (no spaces) and let me know to add you to my e-mail only list.
I'm very excited to have A Death in Norfolk finished at long last!

I'm pleased to announce that The Hanover Square Affair, Book 1 of the Capt. Lacey Regency Mysteries, is now available in print from Amazon.
If you know of readers who like to read in print form only, please alert them. At this point, The Hanover Square Affair must be ordered online from either Amazon or CreateSpace.
Next in the print queue is The Necklace Affair (and Other Stories)--not because it's next in sequence, but because The Necklace Affair thus far has been offered only in e-book form.
For the print edition, The Necklace Affair will be gathered with the stories in The Gentleman's Walking Stick to make one volume of the Captain Lacey tales. Just to be confusing, the cover art will be that of The Gentleman's Walking Stick, but with The Necklace Affair for the title. Look for that in a few weeks (I will post as well).
A Death in Norfolk is progressing on schedule. I am almost finished with the ms., and then it will be edited, proofed, etc. Pub. date should be October 15. Death in Norfolk will also be out in print, if not simultaneously with the e-release, then shortly thereafter (as in a couple of weeks). The rest of the series will follow!
I was also thrilled to learn that the Capt. Lacey series has now sold its 50,000th digital copy! Thank you for the continued support.

Because I'm still writing A Death in Norfolk, I decided to put up a Capt. Lacey short story anthology this month. I had planned on putting it together after Norfolk, but because I'm delayed, why wait?
Two short stories are gathered in this anthology: 1. "The Gentleman's Walking Stick"; and 2. "The Disappearance of Miss Sarah Oswald."
I wrote and sold both of these stories before I began the Lacey novels. To my surprise, "The Disappearance of Miss Sarah Oswald," first published in Over My Dead Body! Mystery Magazine, was nominated for a Derringer award (given by the Short Mystery Fiction Society) for best short story of the year.
The reception of these stories encouraged me to write The Hanover Square Affair and try to get it published, and the rest is history.
Both are standalone stories, but in the series cycle, they can fall anywhere after Sudbury School Murders.
The collection, titled The Gentleman's Walking Stick, is available from
And will be available on Kindle UK and DE when everything processes through.
In other news: The books are in the process of being reprinted in trade paperback editions. The Hanover Square Affair will be the first available, probably next month, with the others following. The Necklace Affair will be printed together with the stories in The Gentleman's Walking Stick, for one volume of shorter works.
Thank you for your patience about A Death in Norfolk. I got backed up on two other series I'm doing at Berkley, always tricky. However, the book is on its way.

I am hard at work on A Death in Norfolk, very much enjoying the research on Norfolk and Lacey's past. I'm slightly behind on writing the book (this is not unusual for me), because I have two Jennifer Ashley books kicking me at the same time (timing at publisher; it is the way of publishing).
However, the book won't be delayed *that* much--I'm thinking a few weeks at most. I want to have it out as soon as it can be finished, edited, and proofed.
At the same time, the books are being prepped for print re-release, hopefully all six, plus Necklace Affair, very quickly one after the other, so that Death in Norfolk can be released simultaneously in e- and print. I do not want to leave out readers in any format.
The Lacey series has now started to appear on Sony and Kobo. For some strange reason, they both have Covent Garden Mystery and one or two of the others, with no seeming regard to series order. I have no idea why; both vendors were shipped all the books. Wait and watch is all we can do. I'm happy at least that some of the books are at those vendors.
Again, the entire series can be purchased from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Smashwords. I have links to all at http://www.gardnermysteries.com/
I will update as the pub date for Death in Norfolk nears and arrives.
Wednesday, August 03, 2011
As reminder, the Kindle version is already up
As is the Smashwords version (multi-formats and available worldwide)
I included a sneak peek of A Death in Norfolk at the end of Covent Garden. I am hard at work on Death in Norfolk, and I will update on its progress as I go. Expect publication in September (as usual, I'm a little behind, so I'm shooting for September 15 or so). I will keep you posted.
As always, check my website for new information http://www.gardnermysteries.com/ or follow me on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/GardnerAuthor for instant updates.
My thanks, once more, to fans of Captain Lacey who continue to support the series!

At last! The Kindle version of Covent Garden Mystery is now up at Amazon (as well as Smashwords).
NOOK IS STILL PROCESSING over at B&N (I will update when the Nook version is "live").
Also please note that the Kindle versions on Amazon.UK and Amazon.DE take another day or so to process through after the U.S. version is live. So, please don't be alarmed if the button says "not available in this region." The fact that a page is there at all means that it's coming! (No idea why they put that message there; it's quite confusing.)
I will update when the NOOK version is here!
Monday, August 01, 2011
Well, here it is Monday morning, 8/1, and no book. I can only say I have no idea why--I've received no communication explaining the delay; my account in both places simply says the book is "processing." I can only think that they're backlogged and will put it live sooner or later.
Please continue to check B&N or Amazon (as you prefer) this week. Believe me, I check it every hour! (My husband is a very patient man.)
I will post here, on my website, FB, twitter (@GardnerAuthor), and send out my newsletter as soon as the book is up. You can join my yahoo newsletter at (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/gardnermysteries/ ) or send me an email to join my email list (gardnermysteries @ cox.net [no spaces])
Meanwhile the book is available on Smashwords: http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/77179 in multiple formats if you don't wish to wait.
This is the first title in this series that has had such a problem, so I'm not sure what's going on.
Again, my apologies.
Saturday, July 16, 2011
I have a cover for A Death in Norfolk, which is quite exciting. Work on it is progressing nicely. I'm digging hard into Lacey's past, and I'm starting to want to live in Norfolk, England. Lovely, lovely place and loaded with history, ancient and not-so-ancient.
Between now and the release of Death in Norfolk, will come A Covent Garden Mystery, which reveals much about Lacey's marriage and why it foundered. Look for that the last week of July (Target date is July 30.)
Also, rest assured that I am working to get all the novels back into print, plus the forthcoming ones into print as well. I firmly believe in multiformats.
Thank you to the readers who continue to support the series. I know I say that often, but it is heartfelt. Believe me!

Good news! A Body in Berkley Square is now available at:
Nook from Barnes and Noble
and Smashwords in multi-formats
More news: The first four books of the series plus the novella (Hanover Square Affair; Regimental Murder; Glass House Sudbury School; Necklace Affair) are now available on Apple iBooks! Through the iPad/iPod or from iTunes. Body in Berkeley Square will follow in a few weeks.
Sony: Books are shipping, but the process is slow. Will let you know as soon as I see one there! Formats for Sony readers can be purchased from Smashwords
I am taking a much-needed vacation (sort of)--will update my website and send out my newsletters soon (follow links on http://www.gardnermysteries.com/ to sign up for the newsletter).
Monday, June 27, 2011
I will post the Nook link when it becomes available (should be soon).
Sunday, June 26, 2011
A Covent Garden Mystery, the last of the backlist books will come out early August (or last week in July, depending on how quickly the edit-proof process goes).
I am working on A Death in Norfolk, with plans to publish that in early September.
After that, I have three more Lacey novels in the works, but the one per month schedule will slow--because I need time to write the books and make them good. I'm thinking one every 2-3 months, but I'll let you know as things go on if that's realistic.
A Disappearance in Drury Lane
The Alexandrian Affair
Death of an Only Son (or Murder in Grosvenor Square--have not decided yet).
You will find out much more about the pasts of Marianne, Grenville, Mr. Denis, and of course the acerbic Lady Breckenridge.
Thanks again for the support for this venture. The good Captain will continue!
Tuesday, June 07, 2011
At last--a brand new, never-before-published Captain Lacey story! The Necklace Affair is now available.
Find it on:
and in various formats on Smashwords: http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/64839
(It will eventually be loaded to other vendors via Smashwords--that takes time, but Smashwords makes it downloadable in many different formats. It is an ebook only at this point, but it will be bundled with another book when the books get re-printed).
The Necklace Affair began as a story I started one day on jury duty. It sat unrevised on my computer for years. (I had the vague notion of sending it to Ellery Queen magazine or some such, but life got in the way.) I found it while going through the files to prepare to re-release the Lacey books and write new ones.
I rewrote, revised, and expanded the story to a ten-chapter novella (remnants of the original jottings I did in the jury waiting room are still there).
The story falls between the events in The Sudbury School Murders and A Body in Berkeley Square (which will come out in July).
I might do a few more novellas, but my priority is the full-length novels. I am hard at work on A Death in Norfolk, which will come out after Covent Garden Mystery is re-released.
I hope you enjoy this interum story. It represents, to me, a great triumph in getting the Lacey books moving forward again!

The Necklace Affair has already reached Nook as well: Click here to go to the Nook version.
The Kindle version is still in process, should be ready in the next day or so. (You can also find a version for Kindle at Smashwords).
More to come!
Thursday, May 19, 2011
The Hanover Square Affair is now at Smashwords in every format (for Sony, Palm, ePub etc). It takes a while for Smashwords to upload to all the vendors, but you can get the book for your devices directly from Smashwords. The price is 99 cents.
Hanover Square and the others through Sudbury School Murders are already available on Amazon Kindle and B&N Nook (See http://www.gardnermysteries.com/ for links to them.)
Since the Smashwords process is now much faster, the other books will follow shortly.
And of course, The Necklace Affair is coming next month. Something new!

Sudbury School on Nook
Sudbury School on Kindle
I am working to get all books in the series out on other platforms (Apple iBooks, Sony, Kobo, etc), but the process is taking some time. I will post when it happens.
Next, The Necklace Affair! More about that as June nears.
Monday, May 09, 2011
I have today uploaded The Sudbury School murders to Kindle and Nook. It takes a couple of days to process, but keep checking. I will also post here when they are available.
I included a teaser for The Necklace Affair, the novella coming next month.
(Check out The Necklace Affair's lovely cover on my website: www.gardnermysteries.com, and click Books).
Again, thanks for all the support!
Monday, May 02, 2011
After Sudbury School , something new! The Necklace Affair, a never-before-published novella. The Necklace Affair began as an unfinished story I wrote a few years ago, while waiting all day at the city courthouse to be picked for jury duty (never was).
I'm expanding and finishing the story and have just contacted my cover artist to do the cover for it (plus covers for Body in Berkley Square and Covent Garden).
I plan to have The Necklace Affair ready to publish in mid-June. In Lacey's life sequence, it squeezes between Sudbury School and Body in Berkley Square.
BTW, this story will not replace Lacey Book 7 (tentatively titled A Death in Norfolk)--this is in addition to, not instead of.
So, look for Sudbury School in mid-May, and we march onward!
Wednesday, April 20, 2011
The Kindle version of The Glass House is now out!
(It is already out on Nook: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/The-Glass-House/Ashley-Gardner/e/2940012305268/?itm=2&USRI=ashley+gardner )
I will be sending out my e-newsletter later today.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/gardnermysteries to sign up or email me at gardnermysteries @ cox.net (no spaces) and ask to be put on my email list, if you don't want to use yahoo.
Next, working on The Sudbury School Murders plus a new Lacey novella, The Necklace Affair.
Monday, April 18, 2011
The Nook version of The Glass House is live at Barnes & Noble: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/The-Glass-House/Ashley-Gardner/e/2940012305268
The Kindle version is on its way (takes a little longer for it to process). I will be putting out my newsletter (both through the yahoo group and via email) when the Kindle version is also ready, plus tell readers about what's coming up next.
You can also scroll down on this blog and see the new items that have been added to the book list or check the updated website http://www.gardnermysteries.com
Thanks again for your support of this venture, and I hope you're enjoying the books!
Friday, April 15, 2011
Thank you so much to readers who have been purchasing the e-editions of The Hanover Square Affair and A Regimental Murder! You are making this venture worthwhile.
I will send out an email blast when The Glass House is up--if you would like to receive an email, please contact me at gardnermysteries @ cox.net (no spaces) or join my Yahoo group at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/gardnermysteries/
I should have the book up as both Nook and Kindle by the 18th of April (was the 15th, but I am today finishing up the formatting, proofing, and uploading, which should put it on sale by Monday).
Monday, March 21, 2011
To promo the release of A Regimental Murder, I have put The Hanover Square Affair on sale for .99 on both Nook and Kindle. Get it while it lasts!
A Regimental Murder is now up at Kindle and Nook, ready to go. It's price is 1.99. The Glass House is next!
I'm trying to keep the prices low for as long as I can, to introduce the series to those who might not have caught it the first time out. Please pass the word to anyone you think would enjoy the Captain Lacey Mysteries!
Wednesday, March 16, 2011
A Regimental Murder is now out on Kindle:

I am working to get it on NOOK--once that's up I'll make a grand announcement, update my website, etc. Things are moving!
Sunday, February 27, 2011
Some of the covers for upcoming releases of the Captain Lacey mysteries. Just to reiterate, the first book The Hanover Square Affair is now available on
Barnes & Noble Nook
A Regimental Murder (Lady Breckenridge's first appearance) will re-release in a couple of weeks (planned, March 7).
Also, I came across a never-before-seen Lacey novella, which I will edit and release sometime in the coming months. The working title is "The Necklace Affair." Watch here or on my newsletter list: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/gardnermysteries, or my website (www.gardnermysteries.com) for information about that.
Friday, February 18, 2011
Book 2, A Regimental Murder, will follow in March.
Monday, January 31, 2011
I will update here with links when the book is available, plus I have been updating my website (http://www.gardnermysteries.com)
I am getting pretty new covers for each book, and I'm going to try to keep the prices as low as possible.
